Who
benefits from Cosmetic(Aesthetic)
Surgery?
Individuals who seek to
alter specific body features to address their own dissatisfaction
with such issues are very likely to be highly satisfied with cosmetic
surgery. Typically these patients present for surgical assessment
with clearly identified issues.
No
person should ever undergo aesthetic surgery to satisfy another
individual nor with the hope that it will save a deteriorating relationship.
Pre-operative
Consultations
The
purpose of these visits is to ensure that anbreast_reconstruction.shtmlate
candidate for the envisaged surgery and properly understands what
can (and sometimes cannot) be achieved. It is also essential that
patients fully comprehend what the post-operative period might involve.
I generally recommend that patients contemplating cosmetic surgery
attend for at least two consultations so that there is ample opportunity
for the surgery to be fully discussed and all the relevant issues
considered without haste.
Post
Operative Care
The well informed cosmetic surgery patient has a proper understanding
of what to expect during the post-operative period. Every patient
varies somewhat and regular review is the best way to ensure that
your recovery is progressing well.
How
reproducable is cosmetic surgery?
It
is an inescapable fact that every individual responds differently
to what may be essentially identical surgical procedures. Technically
similar operations on diferent patients will result in differing
degrees of swelling and bruising. Likewise when the skin of the
eyelids or the face for example is adjusted in lid reductions or
facelifts, the intrinsic elasticity of the skin(often influenced
by the amount of sun damage) may produce some variation in results.
Likewise,
similarly placed breast prostheses of identical size and shape will
produce different results for each individual. The size and shape
of the thorax, elasticity of the skin, and of course the amount
of breast tissue are all factors which influence the final outcome.
Results following liposuction are greatly affected by the elasticity
of the overlying skin.
